The class with traditional, well-spaced deadlines imposed by the professor had the highest scores.
According to Ariely, “Without properly spaced deadlines—deadlines that would have forced the students to start working on their papers earlier in the semester—the work was generally rushed and poorly written.” This research sums up three realities of the writing life:
1. Nearly everyone procrastinates.
2. Waiting until the last moment degrades the quality of the work.
3. Deadlines are an effective defense against procrastination.
