You hear the phrase a lot: “There are only two kinds of people in this world…” People like me, and the other people, typically. Our perception of that dividing line determines a great deal of our spirituality. The old ways of answering this question are no longer helpful, but like using our right hand, they are very comfortable even though they don’t work like they did before. Right handed ways of disciple making, using events and programs, don’t work.
When I look at the gospels, I don’t see Jesus doing things in a “right handed” way. We need a new way to make disciples, and the way Jesus taught it to be done looks like a very effective option. The best description of the left hand approach to disciple making, for me, is this way of drawing the line that defines the two kinds of people in the world:
“There are only two kinds of people in this world: people who need to become disciples, and disciples who need to become disciple makers.”
Which category do you find yourself in? And, are you stuck there … or moving?
