Song: We Will Never Lose Our Way

I began writing songs soon after my conversion. Prior to that I had made multiple attempts but with few results. Faith gave me a focus and lyrics began to rise up. Typically I would play something on the guitar and a phrase would occur to me; I would find some sort of melody and sing it with the guitar. The poorer songs depended upon some trick with the guitar, such that the voice was actually an accompaniment to the guitar. The better songs could be sung with or without the guitar part.

Rarely, a song would emerge as words in the absence of a melody or a guitar part. We Will Never Lose Our Way is an example. It was born one day in 1997 during very difficult times, and has never had a melody or a guitar part. That may change.

For this reason, and because I feel the words are amazing, I’ve shared it with others as an opportunity to co-write a song with someone else. I’ve handed out a lot of copies over the years, especially to professional performers, but no one has returned with an idea. Perhaps one day God will give me the music to go with the words that came earlier.

Sometimes it seems as if I can hear a snatch of it … in the far corner of my mind. But nothing has emerged yet. Here it is:

We Will Never Lose Our Way
©1997 and 2015 by Dave Kueker

Eph 4:1-3 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Heb 12:11-13 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.

If we look back with pain,
Or forward with our fears
Then we will just complain,
And sow the seeds of tears
But if we can maintain,
Our spirits in the present day
In love and joy and peace,
Then we will never lose our way.

We will never lose our way.
We will never lose our way.
God is the master of our path, and
We will never lose our way.

Will God forsake His purpose?
Or fail to persevere?
Have faith in love and providence
There are no limits here
Just seedtime & harvest,
And time for them to grow
From the present comes the best
In this life that we will know.

If we look within our faith
We will find the answer there
For God makes something out of nothing
And someplace out of nowhere
So lift up the arms of weakness
And seek an inner strength
Our Lord does not sleep or slumber
And will deliver us at length

Repeat first verse & CHORUS
